Brief description of Hofmantorp Manor
Hofmantorp Manor is located in southern Småland, approximately 2.5 kilometers eastwards from Växjö and south of Road 25 towards Kalmar, southwest of the community Hovmantorp. The farm was a settlement already during the Iron Age, certainly due to good fishing and hunting. From the year 1545 the ownership is documented. In 1558 the farm was bought by king Gustav Vasa, and it was then under the crown for nearly 100 years. In the second half of the 16th century it evolved into a large estate under the ownership of the Skytte family. Johan Frederik Kjellson bought the farm in 1856, and since then it has been managed by his descendants, now in the fifth generation. Today the estate consists of some 1,000 hectares of well consolidated land on the peninsulas of lake Rottnen. We conduct forestry with great attention to nature conservation and wildlife management, extensive farming with grazing animals, and various forms of nature tourism based on fishing, hunting and quality of life in an undisturbed and beautiful environment. The owners' commitment to wildlife, conservation and hunting for the past 150 years has resulted in a unique environment. The farm also includes some 1,000 ha of private water in lake Rottnen. Fishing – especially cray fishing – and related activities are of great importance.
